Portugal Welcome

The promotion of innovative economic activities based on the valorisation of endogenous resources, such as olive oil, are an example of the paradigm we want for the sustainability of the natural and economic ecosystem of the centre region.

Olive tourism is an emerging segment that represents a panoply of tourist activities based on olive oil, olives and olive trees, with particular expression in the Mediterranean Basin. In the Center of Portugal, the area occupied by olive groves (65,000 ha) represents around 18% of the total area at national level. There is clearly an opportunity here for tourism, in terms of the olive oil sector, which Turismo Centro de Portugal and its various stakeholders must be able to take advantage of. Here, in the Center of Portugal, we are committed to researching and promoting olive oil tourism, creating museums, visitable production areas, events, routes, accommodation activities, tourist entertainment companies and specialised shops. We already have some spaces dedicated specifically to this theme, such as the "Traditional Oil Mill of Maçainhas" in Belmonte; the "Museum Nucleus of Olive-oil" in Idanha-a-Nova; the "Varas" Oil Mill of Vila Velha de Ródão" or the "Olive-oil Museum Space of Sarnadas de Ródão" in Vila Velha de Ródão; the "Oil Mill of Ferrugenta" in Vila de Rei; the "Olive-oil Museum" in Oliveira do Hospital; or the "Olive-oil Museum of Fátima" in Ourém. In addition to these, there is the possibility of visiting olive oil producers (in Abrantes, Fundão, Torres Novas or Góis), and events or tourist entertainment companies that have already organised themselves around this theme.

However, there's still a long way to go, which is why we see it as a huge opportunity to hold "The fifth annual Yale Symposium" in the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital, in the Centre of Portugal. Welcome to Portugal's largest and most diverse tourist region.

Tábua, the Charm of the Beiras!" is honoured to welcome the participants in the 5th Yale Symposium on Olive Oil & Health, and wishes them an excellent work and that they enjoy the natural beauty and landscape of the region, its excellent cuisine and the hospitality of the people of the Beira region. Welcome!

Oliveira do Hospital - An enterprising, dynamic land with a will to change. A territory that constantly challenges itself, mobilizes and innovates, respecting the principles of sustainability, with social and environmental responsibility.
We are a welcoming and integrative land. Welcome!
